Wow!
What a weekend we just had. Or would it be considered
a week? Or a semi-week? Perhaps few days? Whatever.
For those that were unaware, we just got off
a mini tour around the east coast with the lovely
and ever so fun folk from Toronto disco funk
outfit, King Sunshine. And of course the lovely
turntable diva, Mizz Maxine!
And
man oh man did we ever have a good time! We
ran from Saint John, to Fredericton, to Moncton
and then out to Halifax. Every night was filled
with a bottle's full of fun; some of which will
be kept to ourselves! We want to thank Marc
from Lefty, King Sunshine & Mizz Maxine
for an awesome adventure that we will not forget
and hopefully we will all get to party together
again soon!
So what is in store for the coming few months
for us?
We are taking the time to enjoy the holidays
with our families with plenty of turkey, mince
meat pies and eggnog. Once we hit 2010, we have
plenty of plans, and plans that are big! We're
starting off the new year by travelling around
to see all our lovely friends on the east coast
and then taking our wheels and heading it our
to Quebec and Ontario! For the first time! We're
breaking through the maritime realm and venturing
off into new territory; and we CAN NOT WAIT!
We'll be meeting up with some friends that we
have not seen in a bit! Can't wait!
To put some icing on the cake, the day after
our last show in Ontario, we'll be heading to
Syndey, Cape Breton and showcasing ourselves
at the East Coast Music Awards! Very excited!
It will be a long drive from Ottawa to Sydney
but it will be very much worth it!
And now to put a cherry on that icing, that
is on the cake...;)....Instantly after the ECMAs,
we're heading back into the studio to get our
second album off it's feet. We've been working
on some new material in the past few weeks;
some of which we've been playing for awhile,
and some of which is being heard for the first
time by the band. We're extremely excited about
getting these songs laid down and can not wait
to get them into your hands!
After all this...we'll be back to the spring
and just around the corner will be summer! Expect
to see us around and working hard as we always
do!
Happy holidays and the best way to nurse a hangover
is to keep the party going! So keep that party
going and we'll see you guys all very soon!
One Love!

Harvest
Recap
It
seemed like the entire city of Fredericton was
on-the-go this weekend as the downtown area
quickly filled up for the annual Harvest Jazz
and Blues Festival. It was a good feeling to
be performing at this year's festival. After
watching countless performances over the past
few years, it was an honour to be given the
opportunity to showcase our talent this year.
I guess it speaks to the support that the city
of Fredericton has been showing to us as of
late.
Our
festival started off on Thursday with Nick,
Matt, and Greg, along with our friend Brian
Munn, busking in front of City Hall. They went
through a number of Weak Size Fish originals,
stripping the songs down to their acoustic form
for those willing to lend their ears. I believe
they even slipped in a few new songs for those
lucky enough to hear!
On
Friday we competed in the CBC Galaxie Rising
Star Competition. Although we are very proud
of our performance, we didn't end up winning
(congratulations to Sleepy Driver). However,
we would like to thank the many people who took
the time to vote online. It seemed as though
our family and friends became our biggest advocates
in garnering up support for our band, and to
those we'd like to send a big thank you. As
well, for those who were present for the actual
competition, thanks for taking the time out
of your day!
To
round off our weekend, we performed Saturday
evening on the Taylor Electric Tannery Stage.
And I must say, it was an absolutely awesome
experience. Many bystanders took the time to
listen to our music, and looking out at the
sea of on lookers is definitely a fulfilling
experience. Many people were as so kind to personally
congratulate us on our performance following
the show, which is a confident boost I think
every band needs.
What's
up next for us? We'll be heading down to the
southern New Brunswick region over the next
few weeks. We'll be making stops in St. George
(Paul's Wharf), Saint Andrews (Red Herring),
and in Saint John (Blue Olive). Hope to see
you all out there!
Cheers,
Mitchell

We
Are Alive!
Well
well well, it's been a long time since we've
discussed our adventures on here. It's been
a little over three months. Did you miss our
hopefully not so boring and slightly interesting
stories? Well good!
So
what have we been up to since our last update
you ask? Well we've played two Freddy shows
(one in May and one in August), which as a matter
of fact, our last show in Freddy which was on
August 15th with FM Hi Low, was BY FAR the sweatiest
show of life. Is sweatiest even a word? There
was literally a pool of sweat on the stage at
The Capital and we have to give a shout out
to everyone who took off their shirts in the
crowd with us and decided to not give a *#@&
about getting sweaty and dirty. THANK YOU SO
MUCH!!!
Other
shows we've played have been at the lovely Paul's
Wharf with Lemonisco (now We Are Radio). Thanks
St. George for the ball field we camped on.
Then we hit up Saint Andrews at The Red Herring,
always a beautiful spot in the summer. Thanks
to Jay and Mumbles for the accomodations and
the late late late late night jam which I vaguely
remember.
Then
it was off to Moncton, sorry for the fragrance
of which we filled the bar with. Hopefully some
of you enjoyed it! ;) Then it was off to Hunter's
Ale House in Chtown, and WOW! We love Charlottetown!
You guys are awesome!
Then
it was the icredible RIVER JAM with Slowcoaster
and Brother Sister! One of the most fun shows
of the summer for sure! After that we hit up
the Salty Jam Festival for an afternoon set,
hope you all enjoyed it! Then we took a ride
out to Nest Fest for our first time and this
event is, I guarantee it, going to pick up and
get big. Awesome location, awesome people, awesome
organizer, GREAT EVENT!!! GO NEXT YEAR!!
Then
we hitched it to Sussex to cram ourselves into
the lovely little Mason Jar. Beautiful bar and
lovely little town! I honestly don't know how
we fit 7 people on that little stage, but we
did!!! And last weekend we played a gorgeous
afternoon set at the Sunseekers Ball! What a
time! This festival was a ton of fun. I did
break three strings during our set, which was
unfortunate, but shit happens and the show must
go on right?
As
for this weekend, tomorrow we are heading back
to Charlottetown to see our friends and play
a set with FM Hi Low. We're super psyched for
this show as always. On Sunday we have a set
at the 1st annual FEELSGOOD FOLLY FEST! We hope
to see everyone out and both shows are bound
to be a fantastic time!
So
now you are fully up-to-date with the Weak Size
Fish adventures. There are many stories that
could have been told for every show that I mentioned,
but you would be reading for hours and I think
this blog is getting far too long as it is anyway.
See you on the flip side!!!!
Peace,
Love and Good Times,
Nick

I'll
Share A Bed With You
We
had a conversation not too long ago about every
gig we’ve played together and how we could
remember something significant about each show.
Halifax was no exception. Mumbles joined along
to make some sounds with his bare hands, Jamie
hopped on board to party and sell merch, and
Gerald was there for laughs as always. We pulled
into town after the sun had gone down. What
a gorgeous looking city at night. After hanging
out with the boys from Madame Brown for a bit,
we finished up a doozy of a sound check. After
that Gerald showed up, got us laughing and we
hit the stage. We had heard great things about
The Seahorse and it definitely lived up to its
expectations.
At the end of our set, we hit the bar and started
making some friends. Some even joined us for
a sexy party at our pal Brock’s house
after we left the bar. Thanks for letting us
crash at your place Brock! The next day we took
off for a night in Shediac where we met up with
Diamond, Gladney, Chelsea, and Emily. Thanks
for letting us crash at your place Diamond!
It was our first bonfire of the year and Gerald
did not disappoint. For the most part we stayed
pretty tame until the 151 was cracked. Jamie
tripped over a lawn mower conveniently placed
on the kitchen floor. It was just about time
to go to bed, but there was a huge turtle sighting.
Then a few people, who will remain nameless,
got naked and jumped in the ocean around 1:00
am. The next morning we set our sails northwest,
listening to the Beastie Boys and Simon and
Garfunkel the entire way. Thanks to everyone
who came out to The Seahorse on Friday. Hopefully
we’ll see your lovely faces again sometime
soon!
Much
Love,
Andy

Bash
Last Class
Last
Class Bash, the closing of one door and the
opening of another. The day begins for me with
a morning sun so high that only good things
could have been anticipated. Early afternoon
began when Poody and I decided that we would
go and thank the weather for being here by enjoying
some sun. With great people, music and beers
you could notice a sense of freedom amounting
in the passerby’s who were supporting
their summer attire. There was no better place
I could be at this time. I’ve always admired
how the spring season sparks a rebirth in youth
and grows with the beauty of summer for those
to enjoy it. Needless to say it was a very exciting
time in Fredericton.
To
be able to play a show on this wonderful day
was definitely a blessing of some kind. It became
time to leave the station and head down to Freddy’s
music showroom, the Capital. I love getting
the chance to play here because it always reminds
me of the seeds that I received there which
enabled me to grow. It was at the complex that
reality showed me the beauty of people who love
music. It is a place for anyone to showcase
their music to people who love it. It allows
for complete freedom of creativity and this
energy only reflects in the music people play
here when they are allowed to do this. Five
cigarettes and two beers later, sound check
was finished.
I
was getting pretty excited to see our great
friends from the old homestead on P.E.I. Fugato
came prepared with their newly amped up live
show which they derived from their times being
spend in Charlottetown. Their music poured out
soul and shook the brick walls until it resonated
through the two ears of everyone in the room.
People’s feet were getting warm and slightly
holding back some of their excitement. It seems
as though we must wait until late night to fully
release our inhibitions. But nonetheless they
shall be released. It was a very warm welcome
to get on stage and see the joy on peoples faces,
all because this day marked freedom. Thank you
so much for all the good vibes you have given
us. I don’t think I could have started
playing music in a better place.
To
close this day I would like to congratulate
all of those who have finished their university
degree and are moving on to bigger, better things.
I hope that we were able to bring you some kind
of satisfaction over your years here, and I
hope that we continue our friendship for years
to come over all parts of the world. Peace,
love, and happiness.

Chili,
Dogs & Hospitality
Another
milestone. If we had compiled a list of goals
when Weak Size Fish was formed, opening for
Slowcoaster would have almost certainly been
on that list. We’ve accomplished this
on my 40th show. Here’s how it all went
down.
We
were originally expecting to only play a single
show this weekend in Fredericton, but we were
lucky enough to be invited to play a Friday
night show in Saint John as well. Not having
the best luck with shows in SJ to date, we were
looking forward to rocking out a little extra
to make up for those times. So we loaded up
my wonderful white van and set sail. We arrived
at the Thomson residence and were met with exceptional
hospitality. After several bowls of chili and
about 20 minutes of me playing with the Thomson’s
dog, we headed to the show. Very excited but
a little nervous. (40 shows still nervous? every
once in a while.)
Found
the Blue Olive, a nice bar/restaurant that is
becoming a wonderful place to see music. Great
stage, sound, dance floor and staff. The owner
really made us feel appreciated. A few drinks
later, we’re ready to go. It only took
us about 2 songs to get the brave first people
to move their feet on the dance floor. Great
response from the friendly crowd all night,
a couple of cd’s sold and a few new fans.
Some fans were so friendly we were left to question
their sanity. Met up with our friends The Ideal
Gas Law, who are always a blast. Finished the
night watching the best slowco show we’d
seen in years. SJ has made up for misfortunes
of previous shows.
We
wake up to the smell of bacon sizzling. Mr and
Mrs Munn attempt to out do the Thomson family
hospitality. I was even provided a dog to play
with. Then it was back to Freddy to do it all
again.
Mother
nature knew it was a Weak Size Fish day and
helped us out with the nicest weather imaginable.
Livin is easy with hot sun, a lawn chair and
a beer. We were joined by Mr. AC and Mumble
to help us play a hot, sweaty, rocking show
to rival our CD release. It felt good to get
an attaboy from the guys in slowco.
I
woke up this afternoon with a head-ache, turned
on the radio and guess what I heard, By Your
Side was playing. It was a great/surreal feeling
to hear our song on the radio even if it was
just our buddy Mumble picking the songs.
Thanks
to slowcoaster, dave rabb, blue olive, cellar,
AC, mumble, sunshine, everyone who came to see
us and even those who didn’t.
Love,
Steve

House,
Season Three, Episode Five
This
beautiful sunny Friday the 13th was the day
we’d been awaiting for months –
the CD release show at le Cellar. What an exciting
day! After checking our sound, we knew by the
already bustling crowd, that good times were
to come. The boys from Ideal Gas Law played
an exceptional set, and the crowd was giving
off incredibly great vibes. Though my eyes were
closed the whole time, I knew there was a lot
of grooving going on, and that Mike Humble played
his heart out on percussion. After the show,
it was nice to mingle/party with some friends
at home and have some home brew.
Awoken
at noon the next day, it was time to get cozy
with our pretty-eyed boy Bryan in the white
wizard of a van and head to the island to do
it again. It was awesome to be in Charlottetown
again to see some of them nice folk, and have
a nice change of scenery playing at Baba’s
for such a rocking crowd. I was amazed by Fugato’s
revamped, groovy, in-your-face sound not to
mention the Sweet O and House the sound guy.
We’d like to extend our thanks to our
Charlottetown friends for allowing us to have
such a cuddly sleep in their living room. A
fun-filled drive back to Freddy included a stop
for rock throwing at le Petit Cap, 8 deer, and
a bald eagle.
Can’t
wait ‘til Friday and head to SJ!
See
you soon

Sack-Attack
If
a large group of sweaty people had sex appeal,
it would be our friends from Mount Allison.
This was our first show to promote the new album
and we can honestly say it won’t be forgotten.
Thanks to everyone who came out, you’re
all really beautiful!
So, where do I begin? We took off from Fredericton
with an entourage so we had to take a few vehicles
and brave the terrible weather (pathetic fallacy?).
Fortunately I was put in a car with the best
looking studs in town. We hit the highway and
things were smooth sailing, however, about 20
minutes in, the car blew a tire. Luckily, we
had some mechanics with us and we were back
on the road in no time. What’s even better
is that by some divine miracle the rain let
up for the 10 minutes that we needed to replace
the tire.
After a nice slow drive to Sackville we unpacked
our gear, did a quick sound check, and stared
into the faces of the most groovy people east
of Montreal. We were playing all night, so we
figured we would take a little break and play
two sets. We opened up the second set with a
new tune called ‘Take Me Home’ and
that’s when things got a little rough.
We had some technical difficulties, tried to
fight through it for a couple songs, but in
the end we had to call it quits early and pack
up for the night. To everyone who was upset
about this, we’re sorry. We’ll be
back soon and I promise we’ll be groove-worthy
so all of you can be your hip selves. Wadata!

Spanking
Brand New Discs on the Behind
Yes!
That's right! Our CDs came in the mail yesterday!
It was a very exciting day, one that's very
similar to the feeling of Christmas day (as
a child of course)! The Purolator truck showed
up while I was in the process of making some
soup and I left my soup unattended for a brief
period. The soup still filled my belly, but
was not cooked to it's full potential.
Soup
aside, the CDs look gorgeous and we had a bit
of a celebration, even though it was a Monday
(last Monday of the week)! Time to get it out
there! Here's a video of the events that happened
the day/night of the arrival of our CDs.

On
another note, our debut album, Off We Go,
is set to be released this Wednesday!!! We're
very excited to get it out there, and to begin

Peace
