What started out as a couple of friends getting together every other day to jam out to their favorite songs, has grown into something a little more serious, something a little more fun, something that they like to call Weak Size Fish. Starting out on the beaches of Prince Edward Island, Nick Mazerolle, Mitchell and Matthew Bernard, began to jam together, playing songs that went against most of the traditional styles of music that would be listened to in the little but heavily populated fishermen village of Tignish, mashing together several styles of music from Acoustic, to Reggae, to Rock, to Folk, to Latin, to Blues and a little hint of Jazz and Funk from time to time.

As the three went off to university, they decided to attempt to take their musical talent to the stages of Fredericton, New Brunswick. And so they did, as they were heard jamming out in their residence room by fellow residents, and were suddenly asked to play a charity show for Neville House. They quickly accepted the challenge. On October 1st, 2005, Weak Size Fish took to the stage for the first time at the infamous campus pub, The Cellar. Since then, they have been the first band to go to if you wanted to take your house party to another level and have played in venues like The Cellar, UNB SUB Cafeteria & the Megalodon, to name a few. They have participated in the PEI Guitar Festival and shared the stage with singer/songwriter Scott Parsons and former vocalist for the Guess Who, Terry Hatty.

In the late summer of 2006, they recorded several songs in Nick’s bedroom. Sticking to their roots, they decided to relate the CD to their Island lifestyle, naming the EP, Swim In The Ocean. Joining them on the CD was bassist Danny Flynn.

As they played many sing-a-long covers in the past, it made tons of sense for their originals to be great sing-a-longs as well. They have been adding more and more originals to their set list for their shows. After asking Steve “Stevo” MacMillan to play one show with them as they played in the UNB SUB Cafeteria, the band enjoyed having him around so much that they asked him to continue playing with the band, and so he became the newest member of Weak Size Fish, playing drums and percussion. The rest of the band quickly found as though something was missing from the sound and they met bassist Andrew Thomson who quickly joined the band.

In early December, 2007, the band decided to record a last class bash festival in which they played at their home turf, The Cellar Pub and Grill. The band is getting ready to hit the studio in January to record their first full length album as a band. Keep your eyes peeled.

Fredericton’s Weak Size Fish blends several music styles such as Acoustic, Reggae, Rock, Folk, Latin, Blues and a hint of Jazz and Funk from time to time with acoustic guitars, vocals, drums and percussion, so it’s hard to throw the band into a specific genre. They throw those genres into an upbeat style that makes it hard for listeners to not want to get up and dance and sing along to the sound.
